With the silly season fast approaching, its important to remember that for some people Christmas isn't as magical as it is to others. If you are someone who struggles at Christmas time I want you to know, I see you and I hear you. That's why I have decided to write a quick blog post to share some tips on how to look after your well-being this holiday season.
Set boundaries: Saying yes when you really should have said no can be detrimental to your well-being. It is ok to set boundaries over the Christmas break. Whether that be saying no to attending an event, staying longer than you wish or having an extra piece of Christmas ham. it's ok to say no!
Practice mindfulness: Meditation, mindful breathing and journaling are all great mindfulness exercises that can help you manage the stressors of the holiday season. A great breathing exercise that I often recommend to my clients is to breath in as if you are sniffing flowers and breath out as if you are blowing out candles on a cake.
Slow down: Use this time as a good opportunity to get in a few extra breaks or naps to recharge from the year that was.
Exercise and eat well: We can all go a little silly over the break with food and drink and dropping our exercise routines. It's import not to let that go to much. Continue to go for a daily walk, eat well and be mindful of how much alcohol you consume. Now that you might have more time on your hands because you are off work, it's a great opportunity to look after yourself better.
Connect with others: I know this time can be so difficult and might make you want to shy away from the world, but please remember you are loved and your loved ones want to see you. You don't have to go overboard, but staying connected is a great way to support your well-being and remind you of the good things you have in your life.
The team at Green Lotus Well-being would like to wish you a safe and happy Christmas and New Year ahead!
